A barbershop is more than a place to get your hair cut... the barbershop also ends up a sort of town square. Folks from all walks of life making their livings in an unending list of different ways, all crossing paths in the pursuit of proper head maintenance. The conversations that these walls end up privy to are one of the main reasons being a barber is such a great calling in the first place. Unfortunately though, our customers tend to come in on the same day around the same time when they stop by and that said, never get the chance to run into others doing the same on different days...

From this, the shop tackboard was born... not quite a conversation, but in the absence of that, a way to do a little free self-promotion. Often customers are seen perusing the tacked up business cards while awaiting their turn in the chair, you never know what you might find right? We would hope that a connection or two have been made solely based on the tackboards presence. So, with the desire to bring this agenda over to our little neighborhood on the web here, we offer the following shout out to establishments with particularly close ties to Slim’s as Slim’s Barber Shop is proud to endorse products or services that we use.

Optiflux|MediaTribe - Web & Graphic Design, Video & Photography

Nocturnal Nic Rotondo, Slim’s friend and the Master-of-Ceremonies over at the Optiflux|MediaTribe was the cat who designed this site. Nocturnal Nic is how he became known around here as he’s one of the few people we could text or email at 3 in the morning and usually get a response within 10 minutes. But more importantly, he exhibited an uncanny ability to absorb the personality of our particular shop... and translate that into a site that we couldn’t be happier with. What more could you ask for right? Get in touch with Nic via email here... or LIKE Optiflux on Facebook for more frequent updates on what's going on with the Tribe.

Restaurants to eat at after or before a cut at Slim’s:

Cafe Olympic - 90 N. Williams St. Crystal Lake, IL 60014

You can often catch the boys from Slim’s eating here before, during and after work. Their food selection, speed and prices cannot be beat. Slim’s favorite: Biscuits n Gravy with a scrambled egg and hot sauce on top. It’s 2 doors down from Slim’s.

Georgio’s Pizza - 75 E. Woodstock St. Crystal Lake, IL 60014

Slim’s favorite Chicago style pizza, bar none. Luckily for him, it’s in the building next door to the building Slim’s is in.

Taqueria Las Cumbres - 93 Grant St. Crystal Lake, IL 60014

Around the corner from Slim’s houses the guys favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Everything is freshly made. Slim’s favorite is the Mexican Steak Dinner.

Duke’s Alehouse & Kitchen - 110 N. Main St. Crystal Lake, IL 60014

Right across the train tracks from Slim’s. Great locally grown produce and grass fed beef spice up the menu. Slim’s favorite here is the Vegan Slayer. It is a cheeseburger with BBQ pulled pork, all on a pretzel bun. It’s worth the artery damage.

D.C.Cobbs - 226 Main St. Woodstock, IL 60098

This tavern and eatery is located one town northwest of Crystal Lake. So if you’re headed up near where Groundhog Day was filmed, have a meatloaf sandwich or the Kobe burger and tell ‘em Slim sent you. Pretty waitresses and if you swing that way, Kris Kilpatrick ain’t bad either!

And when it come's to the custom hats & t-shirts available for purchase at Slim's... our vendors are second to none:

Artistic Embroidery Creations

Slim’s gets all their embroidery work done by Raleigh and Linda at Artistic Embroidery. They are fantastic people and do great work. And it’s always funny to see and hear Raleigh pick on Dean.

Fahrenheit Graphics

Norm at Fahrenheit does all of Slim’s T-shirts. He is a fireman, so of course he needed something to do on his 13 days off every 2 weeks. If you haven’t seen Slim’s shirts, just ask him to show you the one he’s wearing the next time you go in for a cut.
